Confusion by Numbers

What is going on?! Oh wait, perhaps I should explain before asking you for answers, huh?
First let me say for the last 2 weeks numbers have been pretty awesome, and seriously lows are reduced by 50% more since switching to the amazing Ping! But since Wednesday after his afterschool running program in which by the way my lil man ran 3 miles, he has had unexplained highs. We thought at first a cold, then he threw up so maybe stomach virus? But that was an isolated incident as well. Mind you no ketones showing through any of this which for him is the first sign of illness. We are talking 280s even a 330! We never see these numbers unless hes sick or a site is bad. Ok so i changed all out and used a fresh vial of the juice. Still highs. Now they arent all day. Just random here and there. Now low 200s but persistant. So we correct and nothing. Temp basal +10-30% and hes down !

So Im thinking growth spurt, what about you?

* Im having phone issues limiting my charachters ,I could cry.

That sounds like exactly what we're going through here. It seems like we get a couple of really great weeks with numbers and then, all of a sudden, it changes and the numbers are perpetually high. And then it switches again to being perpetually low. Once the lows go away, we know it's time to readjust Lily's basal rates since she's probably just shot up an inch or two. So incredibly frustrating, isn't it? I hope you can get the numbers back into range soon!

Hang in there Alexis. Definitely could be a growth spurt...damn hormones making his little body so insulin resistant. I hate that and Cindy's description about describes us with Joe, except now that he is older it seems like we have longer good stretches and minimal shorter low or high stretches.

Thanks ladies its nice to know its not just us sometimes. AsI type this its 2am we are up cause even with tenp basal and correction hes at 340! Change out and corrected by syringe and up upped basal. If still high next is new insulin (current is less than a week since opened and exp 2012) and mom losing her mind. Thankfully no ketones. Ty for letting me vent I needed it!

and now an hour later 107, yea im not gonna sleep. Im wondering if he needs site change every 2 days for some areas instead of 3. when we pulled site out it was quite a bleeder on his tummy. Tushi always works great for full time. Im babbling sorry. Im beat. but we did have some oreo cake due to the big drop ;)

Hey there - I am immediately thinking adrenaline high from the running, which doesn't need a correction. What he needs is then a + temp basal AFTER running. Gary Scheiner writes about this in his book if you have it - Thank Like A Pancreas. He also writes a lot about sports and the HIGH afterwards. I don't think it's the insulin at all, just my opinion. I think he is experiencing the runners adrenaline high, then continuing it.

Isn't it crazy all this thinking we do??? Good luck, just wanted to add my two cents and point you to Gary in case he could help. I have found his books invaluable in helping me figure it out.

Hey Penny I have read the book too I swear by it! Seeing as it was his first time Ill have to see how this week goes first cause he started track at 200 and dropped to 95 so I would hate to set a +basal and he crashes. This week ill be takingg notes on what happens :) Thing is track was Wens its now Sat and still the random highs. I explained above the odd variables. We always have so much to factor in

I now hate numbers!!!
I wish I has some mind blowing twin knowledge to give you, but I've got nuttin!!! Except, I JUST asked the doc on Monday about 2 day site changes. It seems as if it may have been part of that crazy few weeks we had though... b/c this site has made it. I may get the script anyways.

My thoughts are the same as Penny's: adrenaline high or growth spurt.

Hang in there! Good luck! Let us know how track goes this coming week!
